7th-13th : Sapporo Snow Festival (2011)



The Sapporo Snow Festival is one of the largest winter festivals in Japan. About two million people come to Sapporo to see a lot of wonderful snow statues and ice sculptures every year!

March
3rd : The Japanese Doll Festival(Girl's Day)



This Japanese Doll festival is called Hina-matsuri. Usually held on 3rd of March. This day also called "Girl's day" in Japan. Every dolls are decorated on traditional Japanese court style kimono on red carpet. This celebration is originally from Heian period (8th century).

Whole of April : Cherry blossoms in bloom



Flower viewing is very popular in Japan. Especially cherry trees are in bloom from end of March to April.
14th-15th : Takayama Matsuri (Sanno-sai in Spring)
Takayama matsuri is one of the top three beautiful festivals in Japan.
End of April : Rhododendron(しゃくなげ) in bloom at Muro-ji(temple) in Nara
This temple is famous for rhododendron.

7th : Tanabata



Tanabata is to celebrate the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair). By the legend of Tanabata, when the Milky Way separates vega and Altair, and those lovers can meet just once a year on 7th of 7th month.
Caution : Tanabata is held on August some places, because of the old lunar calendar.

9th-10th : Takayama Matsuri
Takayama matsuri is one of the top three beautiful festivals in Japan.
